Broken Promises

London poet and artist, Elle Smith produces a gem in her "Broken Promises' poem. This original poem reminds us of all those broken promises made during relationships, and the impact on the heart feeling somehow deceived by words:

Broken Promises

Lying here

thinking of you

I wonder if

it’s just me

and not you.

You promised me

so many things

like having time

for the two of us

to truly begin.

You always said

my heart

too precious was

to even try

to break in two.

I ponder here

alone in bed

why you ever

these things

could have said.

All that comes

over and over

in constant wave

are the words

I love you.

My heart

beats feint

as these thoughts

recur over again

broken promises

in my head.
