Poetry Reviews of Elle Smith - Contemporary UK Poet

21 May 2017 - Published in POETS The Original Group on Google+ 'Little Things', which was written on 19 May 2017.

Elle says:

"Often we miss the "Little Things' and focus on things that society informs as being expected or normal within our relationships. However, love can be displayed in so many wonderful ways, and often without the need for grandeur or any great feat. This original poem reminds us that those little, everyday signs are the very things we should realize are true signs of affection, and moreover real love."

(written in January 2016)

Elle says:

"This poem recognises that relationships go through many stages as trust is built between the participants. The association with colours shows how the depth of feeling grows as time lapses and the individuals learn more about each other. Elle says:

"It is often difficult to describe the lifecycle; however this comparison to the sea  does work to express even those tough times, when we literally feel lost at sea on a ship which may never come into harbour to dock."

Comment:

"I loved your usage of the imagery of sea to depict time! Beautiful"

"We all have past loves that remain in our hearts over the years; and sometimes we keep those memories alive through tangible things, like photographs. However, even those photos take the toll of time, and start to look old as we imagine how, where and what that person is doing."

Elle says:

"This original poem was about the love sickness condition, where full symptoms are in display but the sufferer will deny them out of fear. Fear can be very debilitating, especially when you secretly love someone."

6 October 2016 - Published on Twitter for National Poetry Day "Any Change" (written in 2016)

Elle says:

"This poem was about giving the homeless a voice, as they are often dismissed by others not recognising we live in times where it is easy to find yourself in dire straits. Often this is through no fault of your own, but just the fall-out from economic decisions taken far away and over which you have those affected have no influence. I tried to use the language often associated with the homeless, but to allow us to reflect with a different perspective. We often look with eyes tainted by the media or others, when we should actually look within ourselves to understand how others truly feel. It is only then that we can start to make a difference, and change situations like homelessness."

Comments:

"Very well-written Elle, It is a matter of circumstance, One person is not better than another."

~~~
"Very beautiful poem Elle!! Keep writing, your a voice for all!!"
Elle says:
"I wanted to write a poem that celebrated the beauty of having differences and uniqueness within the human race. Could I write a poem that would remind of all of this, and somehow unite the world. I think that I did that within this poem."
Comments:
"Some wonderfully, yet deceptively simple lines laden with potential meaning - 'time unearned' is a great observation...."
"Superb attempt at trying to describe the diversities that surround us, the mesh we all belong to, yet look to be uniquely different. A dish washer cleans all, crockery and cutlery.. we all belong in the same spin."
"A brilliant portrayal of the world and life!"
"I like the thought to educate the world about our need to blend and be comforting to others."
"Very cool poem. It has like whispered cool under tones. The hidden metaphors are just priceless."
Elle says:
"This poem is very personal to me, in that for many years, I lacked confidence in my written word and ability because of comments made to me when I was young."
