Poetry Reviews of Elle Smith - Contemporary UK Poet

21 October 2018 Published in POETS The Originals on Google+ Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow  which was written by Elle sometime ago.

Elle says:

An original poem describing those thoughts and inner feelings about the soulmate with whom we connect, and is often the case, drift away from such is the timing of these deeply connected relationships.

This poem was one written with such simplicity that I did not believe it was complex enough to convey the depth and intensity of connection in this love relationship. However, some time after writing this poem, I noted people had been visiting the page on my website. My thoughts were than this was probably random or a mistake, so it was great to have the validation of this poem winning the First Place in the Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest in 2018. I am truly honoured!!!

24 September 2017 Published in POETS The Originals on Google+ A Right Time to Die  which was written on 20 September 2017.

Elle says:

'This poem was all about that certainty we all face from the moment we are born. We often debate whether we have a choice as to when this occurs, and in certain senses we do as we are given a perfect life, and have the choice as to how we care, nurture and simply live that life on a day to day basis. Well, this poem challenges death on a certain night and wins the day. A humorous write about death and out-of-body experiences, which will make you chuckle and offer warm inspiration at the same time.'

Comments:

"Wow +Inspired by Elle. Having had a near death experience I can totally relate to this write. But you describe so beautifully :) An inspiring write :) "

"Death cannot take you,
unless you give up the fight,
and so I battled,
throughout the night.

17 September 2017 Published in POETS The Originals on Google+ Monsters in the Room, which was written in July 2017.

Elle says:

'Life nowadays is full of 'monsters in the room', we all know they are there and that these topics have an unwritten code that you do not speak about them. However, equally important a consideration is just how many 'monsters' you can co-exist with, before they start to infringe on your space and your life. Maybe them just being there, does impact on us but we do not make the connection or even have the time to reflect on their impact. This poem prompts you to reflect, as we are seeing people with greater stress levels, and even mental health issues so maybe there is a connection.'

Comments:

"Beautifully done Elle! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 "

"Wow! Beautiful write Elle...deep piece :) "

"This poem was inspired by the need to redress the imbalance caused by writing 'My Wonder Woman', as many women search throughout their lives for Mr Right, also known as the 'man of their dreams' and 'Princess Charming'. I wanted to sum up those amazing feelings and emotions we experience when we meet him. Hopefully, I did those Men from Mars justice!! LOL

6 October 2016 - Published on Twitter for National Poetry Day "Any Change" (written in 2016)

Elle says:

"This poem was about giving the homeless a voice, as they are often dismissed by others not recognising we live in times where it is easy to find yourself in dire straits. Often this is through no fault of your own, but just the fall-out from economic decisions taken far away and over which you have those affected have no influence. I tried to use the language often associated with the homeless, but to allow us to reflect with a different perspective. We often look with eyes tainted by the media or others, when we should actually look within ourselves to understand how others truly feel. It is only then that we can start to make a difference, and change situations like homelessness."

Comments:

"Very well-written Elle, It is a matter of circumstance, One person is not better than another."

~~~
"Very beautiful poem Elle!! Keep writing, your a voice for all!!"
"I wanted to write a poem that celebrated the beauty of having differences and uniqueness within the human race. Could I write a poem that would remind of all of this, and somehow unite the world. I think that I did that within this poem."
